Overnight oats are the ultimate lazy breakfast. The oats soften in milk and yoghurt overnight into something creamy and pudding-like, with no cooking required.

The basic ratio is easy to remember: equal volumes of oats and liquid, plus a spoonful of yoghurt. Adding chia seeds makes them extra thick. Top with fruit, nuts or nut butter in the morning.

Method

  1. Put the oats, milk, yoghurt, chia seeds, honey and vanilla in a jar or bowl and stir well.
  2. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
  3. In the morning, stir and loosen with a splash more milk if needed.
  4. Top with berries and nuts and eat cold, or warm briefly in the microwave.
