The club sandwich is all about layers and textures: crisp bacon, juicy chicken, creamy egg and fresh salad between three slices of toast.

Secure each quarter with a cocktail stick before slicing. It's the only way to keep a club sandwich together. Serve with crisps or fries.

Method

  1. Grill or fry the bacon until crisp. Toast the bread.
  2. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of toast.
  3. Top two slices with lettuce, chicken and tomato. Cover each with a slice of toast, mayo-side up.
  4. Add the bacon and egg and season. Top with the final slices, mayo-side down.
  5. Secure with four cocktail sticks each and cut into quarters diagonally.
